Star Tribune had the following article this morning. Thought you might have interest in it.

Minnesota outpacing U.S. as incomes climb 3.7 percent

In summary:

MN is doing better than the rest of the US as far as recovering from the recession. Average personal income in 2012 for Minnesota grew at 3.7% to $46,227. This is higher and grew faster than any other state in the Midwest (except North Dakota).

The state released data a week ago showing that Minnesota employers added 14,500 jobs in February, capping the strongest six-month streak of job gains since the early 1980s.

Tom Stinson, the state economist noted that “the news about hiring and income is reason for cautious optimism.”

However, the article went on to mention many of the current job openings within the state are lower-paying jobs (retail sales, cooks, servers, etc.). Also, many businesses in Minnesota are holding off on investments and hiring despite the better economy because of concerns that the recovery may not last.

Minneapolis results from the study:

6. Minneapolis

Entry-Level Employers: 41
Average Annual Pay: $48,670
Cost of Living Index: 109.7
Unemployment Rate: 6.8 percent

The article also notes:
Minneapolis was home to Mary Richards in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, and if Mary could make it there, so might today’s recent college grads. They’d have good company with Target (TGT), General Mills (GIS), and PepsiAmericas, a subsidiary of Pepsico (PEP), headquartered in Minneapolis. The city’s diverse industries include electronics, milling, machinery, and medical products among its strongest. The low unemployment rate and attractions, which include Mall of America and the Mississippi River, are alluring. And yes, you can see the Mary Tyler Moore statue, which depicts the actress tossing her hat in the air as she did in the show’s credits.
